NASCAR Sprint Cup Quaker State 400 Preview and Prediction
Race: Quaker State 400
Date: Saturday, June 30, 2012
Time: 6:30 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: TNT

Saturday night’s race is slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on TNT.

Clint Bowyer posted his first win of the season with a surprising victory in last Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 which was run on a road course at Sonoma. Tony Stewart recorded his second-straight second-place finish and NASCAR bad boy Kurt Bush was third after winning this race last season.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot for this Saturday night’s race along with their current odds to win as provided by Sportsbook.ag

The Favorite (odds of less than 10/1)

Given his current form, it is becoming common place for Jimmie Johnson to be opened as the favorite to win each week. This week he has been opened at +500 to win on Saturday night.

The five-time Sprint Cup champion already has two victories and seven other top-five finishes in 16 races this season.

A fifth-place finish in last week’s race was his fourth-straight top five that put the No.48 car in fourth-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 571 points, which is just 25 points out of the lead. Last year’s third-place finish in the inaugural race at this track also adds value to these odds.

The Contender (odds of 10/1 to 19/1)

A wreck and a suspension problem led to a couple of poor finishes in the last two races, but Denny Hamlin is still one of the hottest drivers in the Sprint Cup series this season. The No. 11 car has already taken the checkered flag twice this year to go along with five other top-five finishes. [ad-8757089]

The team has fallen to eighth in the standings as a result of its recent woes, but remains in striking distance of the leaders with 523 points. Hamlin posted an 11th-place finish in last year’s race at Kentucky after starting 26th.

The Longshot (odds of 20/1 or higher)

Looking at the list of this week’s longshots, let current form be your guide with Joey Logano at +3000. Three weeks ago at Pocono, he shocked the field with an impressive victory, but the No. 20 car has been racing fairly solid all season long.

He is currently 15th in the standings with 441 points but in decent position to make the Chase as a wildcard as a result of this win. Logano already has five other top-10 finishes this season and remains more than capable of winning again.

Last year at Kentucky, he started from the 15th position and finished 14th.
