2011 STP 400 – Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: There is not much precedent for predicting Sunday’s race results at Kansas Speedway, since this is the first time the Cup Series has raced here in June. The circuit has been visiting the 1.5-mile Kansas tri-oval since 2001, but the track previously had just one race date a year, in late September or early October.

Race: STP 400 – Kansas Speedway
Date: Sunday, June 5, 2011
Time: 1:15 PM EST (scheduled green flag)
TV: 1:00 PM EST on FOX

Last year, it was announced that Kansas Speedway would have two Cup dates starting in 2011, the first in June and the second in October (the fourth Chase race). Up to now, the Cup Series has visited Kansas a total of ten times, once per year since 2001.

The Kansas win leaders include Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Greg Biffle with two wins a piece.

Toyota has never been to Victory Lane at Kansas in the Cup Series.

Safe Bet: (odds of 10/1 or less)

Carl Edwards (9/2): All the buzz the past few weeks has been about the performance of the Ford teams, including Edwards, who has topped the points standings for several weeks. Carl has finished as high as 2nd at Kansas (2008) and also has a 3rd (2005). He finished 6th here last year, was 8th in final practice, and rolls of 7th on Sunday.

Mid Range: (odds between 10/1 – 20/1)

Greg Biffle (12/1): As noted above, Biffle is a two-time winner at Kansas and is also the most recent winner, taking two of the last four Kansas races and finishing 3rd in the other two. He has a total of six top-5 finishes in nine Kansas starts and, aside from his debut race here in 2001, has never finished lower then 12th.

Biffle had the fastest lap in first practice and the best 10-consecutive-lap average in final practice.

Long Shot: (odds of 20/1 or greater)

Joey Logano (28/1): Although a Toyota driver has not won a race yet at Kansas, there is a first time for everything. Logano was the fastest car in final practice and qualified 5th. His best finish at Kansas was 17th last year, but it’s worth noting that he has steadily improved his finishes in his three previous Kansas starts.

Summary:

With a high temperature in the 90s forecast for Sunday’s race, expect a slick track and lots of heat stress on both cars and drivers.
