2010 Lenox Industrial Tools 301 Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: There’s been a lot of talk in the media about the possibility of paybacks at Loudon this week with so many drivers mad at each other following last week’s demolition derby in Sonoma. But with the points battle as close as it is and just ten weeks left to make the Chase, I doubt anyone within striking distance of that goal will risk doing something foolish.

Race: Lenox Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Loudon)
Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010
Time: 1:15 PM EST (scheduled green flag)
TV: 1:00 PM EST on TNT

Loudon is a flat 1.058-mile track often compared to Phoenix and Richmond, though each track has distinct characteristics. Ryan Newman won at Phoenix in April, while Kyle Busch took the trophy at Richmond in May.

Safe Bets:

1. Jimmie Johnson (7/2): Johnson’s surprise win at Sonoma last week, his first on a road course, could be an indication that the 48 team is back on track after what some have described as a mini-slump. Johnson swept Loudon in 2003, has the second best average finish among drivers with more than one start, and has had six straight top-10 finishes here.

He qualified 10th for Sunday’s race.

2. Denny Hamlin (5/1): It’s hard to pick against Hamlin right now, who’s won five of 16 races this season including three of the last six.

Hamlin has one previous win at Loudon, finished second here last September, and has the best average finish among active drivers.

Dark Horse:

1. Ryan Newman (25/1): Newman had the fifth-best practice lap on Friday and qualified fifth as well. He has two previous wins at Loudon and finished seventh here last September.

As noted above, Newman won at Phoenix in April, a track often likened to NHMS.

Summary: Loudon is a pivotal race in the NASCAR schedule for two reasons. Sunday’s race kicks off the summer stretch known as the “Race to the Chase” which sets the field for the Chase for the Championship. The Chase itself will start in September at this very race track.

Be sure to check Happy Hour results to see how teams are looking Saturday afternoon, weather permitting.
