2010 Emory Healthcare 500 Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: The last NASCAR Cup race was two weeks ago in Bristol, won by Kyle Busch, while this past weekend was the last off-week between now and the end of the NASCAR season. This week, the series is in Atlanta, and then it’s on to Richmond, the final regular season race before the Chase begins.

Race: Emory Healthcare 500
Date: Sunday, September 5, 2010
Time: 7:46 PM EST (scheduled Green Flag)
TV: 7:30 PM EST on ESPN

It’s a bit of a strange schedule for a Cup race, with no Cup cars on the track Friday – a day that often sees practice and qualifying sessions. Saturday calls for two Cup practice sessions and qualifying, as well as two Nationwide Series practices, qualifying and the Nationwide race itself. Sunday’s Cup race does not begin until 7:46 PM Eastern time. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies all weekend.

Safe Bets:

1. Kevin Harvick (10:1): The current Sprint Cup Series points leader, Harvick has one win at Atlanta and finished second in this race last year after leading 66 laps. He also ran ninth in the spring from a 35th-place starting spot. Harvick is bringing the chassis he won with at Michigan two weeks ago and also finished second with at Indy and Fontana this season.

2. Kasey Kahne (10:1): Kahne was the race winner here last year and ran fourth in the spring after a dominating performance with 144 laps led. He has two wins overall and three straight top-10 finishes, making Atlanta one of his best tracks.

Dark Horse:

1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (22:1): Will Junior have any speed this weekend? It’s hard to say, but he has been fast at Atlanta in the past and consistently cites it as one of his favorite tracks. In 22 Atlanta starts, Junior has one win and ten top-10 finishes. He started on the pole here in the spring and finished 15th.

Summary: Several other drivers run well at Atlanta, including Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson. While the Chase contenders will be battling for the win and attendant bonus points, bubble drivers will be putting it all on the line for a Chase spot.
