2010 Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: Pocono Raceway, known as the “Tricky Triangle,” is a venue where drivers either catch on quickly or seem to struggle, with not much gray in between.

Race: Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 – Pocono Raceway
Date: Sunday, June 6, 2010
Time: 1:18 PM EST (scheduled green flag)
TV: 1:00 PM EST on TNT

It’s a 2.5-mile tri-oval with three distinctly different corners and three different length straightaways, making it a challenge not only for drivers, but especially for the crew chiefs who have to find a way to set up the cars for such strange conditions.

Rain may be an issue over the weekend, including raceday Sunday, although Friday’s qualifying session should be run in full.

Jimmie Johnson had the fastest car in practice Friday, followed by Juan Pablo Montoya, Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and AJ Allmendinger.

Safe Bets:

1. Denny Hamlin (7/2): In eight Pocono starts, Hamlin has three wins, including the August race last year, and the best average finish among active drivers with a 9.5.

He has also finished third twice.

. 2. Tony Stewart (10/1): Stewart is the defending winner of this race and a two-time winner overall in 22 starts.

He started both of last year’s Pocono races from the pole.

Dark Horse:

1. Kasey Kahne (20/1): Kasey won the Pocono 500 in 2008 after starting from the pole. He has an average finish here of 15.5, but his average finish over the last four Pocono races is an impressive 7.0

Summary: Everyone wants to roll through the center at every racetrack, but here at the “Tricky Triangle,” the car that comes off the corner and carries speed down the straightaway will have a distinct advantage.

One unknown that could effect the results Sunday is weather, but if the race goes the distance, keep in mind that Pocono endings have been known to come down to fuel strategy.

Take notes on what happens here this week, because NASCAR returns here in early August.
