2010 Bank of America 500 Predictions – Betting Preview + Picks + Odds

Preview: Thursday was a tale of two track sessions – practice and qualifying. Several teams that struggled in practice ran surprisingly well in qualifying and vice versa. Jeff Gordon, for example, was only 33rd on the speed chart in practice, but went out and captured the pole a few hours later.

Tony Stewart, on the other hand, was sixth quickest in practice, but qualified 29th.

Race: Bank of America 500 – Charlotte Motor Speedway
Date: Saturday, October 16, 2010
Time: 7:46 PM EST (scheduled green flag)
TV: 7:30 PM EST on ABC

Among Chase contenders, only Gordon, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, and Jimmie Johnson will start in the top 10 Saturday night.

Safe Bets:

1. Jimmie Johnson (9/5):  You can never count Johnson out at a track where he has six wins, the most among active Cup drivers.  He won this race last year and has generally had stronger finishes here in the fall race than in the spring.

Johnson has six wins this season, one in the Chase, and is currently leading the championship points.  He qualified 10th for Saturday’s race.

2. Tony Stewart (12/1):  Don’t let Stewart’s deep starting spot fool you.  He had a strong car in practice Thursday and is always good under the lights.  Stewart is coming off a win at Fontana and also won at Atlanta last month – a track considered to be the sister track to Charlotte.

Look for Stewart to work his way to the front in the same car that he won with at Atlanta.

Dark Horse:

1. Kasey Kahne (20/1):  Kasey has three wins at Charlotte in just 13 starts and has scored more points here (including bonus points) than any other driver over the last ten races.

Summary:  Taking into consideration just the fall races, Chevy teams have won six of the last seven.

The exception was Kasey Kahne in a Dodge in 2006, but Kahne is now driving a Ford.  Brothers Kurt and Kyle Busch have both run well at Charlotte recently.
