Preview: It seems hard to believe that this is already the second Cup race at Michigan this season. The first was in mid-June and featured a fuel mileage finish in which Mark Martin zipped past both Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle after the two ran out of gas on the final lap. Johnson led 146 of 200 laps in that race and Biffle, 42, while the only lap led by Martin was the one that counted.
At Watkins Glen, it is more about momentum and going fast. The key is to qualify well and work out a good pit strategy. If you do that, you can hopefully come out of there with a solid finish.” Qualifying is scheduled for Friday morning.

Safe Bets:
1. Jimmie Johnson (+300): Despite the fact that Johnson has never won at Michigan, he dominated the race here in June, as noted above. Johnson’s crew chief Chad Knaus is not the kind to let fuel mileage bite him more than once at the same track, so look for the No. 48 team to be strong this weekend.
2. Carl Edwards (+750): Edwards is impatient for a win this season and knows that Michigan is his best place to get one. He has two wins in ten MIS starts and swept the track last August, winning both the Cup and Nationwide races.
Dark Horse:
1. Matt Kenseth (+1800): Michigan is typically depicted as a Roush-friendly racetrack and Kenseth has won twice here, most recently in August of 2006. Matt hasn’t been to Victory Lane in ’09 since winning the first two races of the season, but may find some redemption this Sunday.
Summary: Another Roush-Fenway driver, Greg Biffle, will also be a man on the move at Michigan. Biffle is currently at +800.

This is probably the last chance for my boy, Dale Jr to win a race this year. He won here last year so he might have a chance. It is worth a small wager just to keep the faith.
