2009 Nascar Auto Club 500 – California Speedway

The 2009 Auto Club 500 is coming to you from California Speedway on Sun, Feb. 22, 2009 televised on FOX…

NASCAR at Fontana – We have your Auto Club 500 Picks

NASCAR takes its Sprint Cup Championship Tour to Fontana, CA for the Auto Club 500 this Sunday.

Matt Kenseth won the Daytona 500 last weekend and jumped to number one in the NASCAR Power Rankings, but some of the best drivers in the world could leapfrog him after a victory or good showing at Fontana.

Will Kyle Busch improve off of his 40th place finish at Daytona? Can Jeff Gordon bounce back from his 13th place finish?

Let’s analyze the Auto Club 500 to Win.

NASCAR: Auto Club 500 to Win

1. Jeff Gordon +1500 – – I’m all about making bets on drivers with nice odds. 15 to 1 are nice odds on Gordo who looked like he would make a run last week at Daytona but failed to do so. He could be very good in this and deserves top billing at those odds.

2. Tony Stewart +2000 – – Stewart finished in the Top Ten at Daytona last Sunday. So, why is he going off at such nice odds to win at Fontana? I’m not sure. The #14 car didn’t look like it was going to cause Smoke any trouble. He could have a huge season.

3. Carl Edwards +400 – – Edwards is the best bet at single digit odds in this race. His Daytona run was awful, but he could bounce back in a big way at a track he’s ultra-comfortable on. Edwards looks mighty tough in this.

4. Kyle Busch +400 – – The jury is out on Kyle this season, but he could put all of the naysayers to rest if he can win at Fontana. Busch was worse than Edwards at Daytona. He too could bounce back with a very nice run. His pride says that he does.

5. Jimmie Johnson +400 – – At 4 to 1, Jimmie’s odds are actually very good in this race. He’s another star who didn’t have a great Daytona. Usually, when guys like Jimmie, Kyle, Carl, Tony and Jeff have a bad race, they bounce right back with a terrific effort the week after. That could be the case with Jimmie.sports-betting/nascar

6. Matt Kenseth +1000 – – The Daytona victor is going off at nice odds again. I’m not sure if he can go back to back, but I do believe he’s one of the top drivers in NASCAR right now. So, it’s not out of the question.

Best Long Shots

Juan Pablo Montoya +8500 – – His Daytona run really wasn’t all that bad. It’s only a matter of time before Montoya wins one of these “circular” races. At those tremendous odds I have to keep thinking about backing him.

Kevin Harvick +2500 – – Harvick finished second at Daytona. A victory at Fontana could be in the cards because he’s obviously driving better this year than he was in 2008.

Clint Bowyer +3000 – – Like Montoya, Bowyer had a better than expected Daytona run when finishing fourth. He’s a viable long shot wager at Fontana because he drives smart and will build on that Daytona run.

Stay Away From

Michael Waltrip +8500 – – Yes, I know. He finished in the Top Ten at Daytona but that’s probably all he does the entire season.

AJ Almendinger +8500 – – His third place finish at Daytona was great but does any bettor really believe that Almendinger can keep it going? I know that I don’t.

Joey Logano +5000 – – Joey didn’t get to finish at Daytona. Hey, there’s no doubt that he’ll be a great driver in NASCAR betting, but Joey himself admits that he has a lot to learn. Let’s get him a few races under his belt before throwing money behind him.
