2008 Sprint Cup Series Driver Standings

Jimmie Johnson heads into the first Nascar chase event on a bit of a roll, here are the 2008 nascar odds, plus race betting lines for the Sylvania 300 this weekend.

New Hampshire Hosts Launch of Chase

The Chase for the Sprint Cup gets started on Sunday with the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. And those who plan on doing any NASCAR betting over the course of the series’ playoffs have noted that Kyle Busch is the championship fave.

Busch has won eight races so far this season, which gives him 80 bonus points atop the re-set Sprint Cup Series standings. Carl Edwards has earned six victories to date, but only received 50 bonus points (his infraction at Las Vegas cost him credit for that win). Jimmie Johnson has been given 40 bonus points for his four victories on the season.

Here’s how the Sprint Cup Series driver standings look heading into New Hampshire:

Kyle Busch — 5080
Carl Edwards — 5050
Jimmie Johnson — 5040
Dale Earnhardt Jr. — 5010
Clint Bowyer — 5010
Denny Hamlin — 5010
Jeff Burton — 5010
Tony Stewart — 5000
Greg Biffle — 5000
Jeff Gordon — 5000
Kevin Harvick — 5000
Matt Kenseth — 5000

That early lead has made Busch the +150 favorite to win the Sprint Cup this year on the NASCAR odds, followed by both Edwards and Johnson at +250. Earnhardt Jr. is listed fourth at +800, with Stewart at +1400, and each of Gordon, Kenseth, Hamlin, and Biffle at +1800. Burton (+3000), Harvick (+3500), and Bowyer (+4500) are listed as longshots.

Johnson heads into the first Chase race having won back-to-back events at Auto Club and Richmond. Stewart, Hamlin, Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Burton, Harvick, Gordon, David Reutimann, and Kurt Busch rounded out the Top 10 in the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond last week. Bowyer crossed that finish line in 12th place, which allowed him to fend off both Kasey Kahne and David Ragan and slip into this season’s Chase.

As well, Bowyer won the Sylvania 300 last year, while Kurt Busch visited victory lane at New Hampshire in the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 back in June. Kyle Busch has had success at the Loudon track in the past as well, as he won the LENOX Industrial Tools 300 in 2006. Johnson, Stewart, Ryan Newman, Gordon, and Burton have multiple New Hampshire wins on their Cup resumes, and Kurt Busch also won there twice in 2004.

If you’d rather save your auto racing dollars for Formula One betting you can also get odds on this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. Standings leader Lewis Hamilton is the +125 favorite to get the win in the circuit’s final stop in Europe this year, with rival Felipe Massa just behind him at +175. Massa was awarded his second straight series victory last weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix when Hamilton was hit with a 25-second penalty.

Following those leaders on the odds list for this weekend are Kimi Raikkonen (+300), Heikki Kovalainen (+1100), Robert Kubica (+1800), and also Fernando Alonso (+3000).
