Game time from the Rogers Centre is set for 7:07 p.m. and it will be broadcast on the MLB Network.
New York entered the break with back-to-back victories over Cleveland and a 6-4 record in its last 10 games. The Yankees trail Boston by one game in the AL East with an overall record of 53-35. They are 30-19 at home and 23-16 on the road.
Alex Rodriguez is out of the lineup indefinitely with a knee injury, but fortunately New York has plenty of other bats on a team that is ranked third in the American League in scoring with 455 runs.
The Yankees will send Bartolo Colon to the mound. The right-hander is 6-4 this season with a 3.20 ERA. He is coming off one of his worst outings of the year; giving up 10 hits and five earned runs in a loss to Tampa Bay. Colon is 8-3 against the Blue Jays with an ERA of 3.41. Toronto went into the break with a three-game winning streak, but is still 11 games behind the Red Sox with an overall record of 45-47. The Blue Jays have gone 26-25 on the road this season, but have struggled at the Rogers Centre with a record of 19-22.
Jose Bautista has put up some MVP-worthy numbers so far with 65 RBI, 31 home runs, and a .334 batting average to lead Toronto to an average of 4.63 runs per game, which is fourth-best in the AL.
Jo-Jo Reyes is slated to get the start on Thursday for the Blue Jays. The left-hander is 4-7 with an ERA of 4.57 in 18 previous starts. He looked rock-solid his last time out; giving up no earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings to get the win over Cleveland.
Head-to-head, the Yankees lead the season series five games to three, but are 1-1 in Toronto. The total is 4-3-1 overall, but has gone ‘over’ in the last three meetings. Stick with New York to grab the early edge in this series with a win as the Yankees’ bats are able to get to Reyes early.
