Pitchers Report for Wednesday June 24th

Wednesday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Wednesday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests.

Probable Cold Pitchers going on Wednesday:

Jason Berken (Orioles, 1-3, 1.63WHIP, 6.84ERA)

Whether it is on the road or at home Berken has not faired well in his first 5 career starts for Baltimore. In his last three he owns a 0-2 record with a 1.88 WHIP and a 10.67 ERA.

It is hard to say he will bounce back at this point because has yet to prove that he can pitch at this level. His only quality start was a day start vs. Detroit where he went 7IP and gave up 1ER.

He’ll be on the road for just the second time in his career facing the Marlins. In his first road appearance he lasted just 3.1IP gave up 7H 3BB and 9ER vs. the Athletics. The A’s do not have much of a lineup yet they hit Berken hard. Luckily for Berken the Marlins are only hitting .211 with 3.63 runs per 9 innings vs. RHP in their last 5.

Joshua Geer (Padres, 1-2, 5.98ERA)

Geer has really struggled more so of late with a 0-1 record and a 1.44WHIP with a 7.56ERA in his last three outings.

Geer has really struggled all year, more so on the road where he owns a 6.99 ERA vs. his 5.20 ERA at home. Ironically he has faced the Mariners before in his brief career when the Mariners visited the Padres.

He went 6 relatively strong innings gave up 6 hits and 3 ER. His problem was Franklin Guitierrez who had 2HR and 2RBI’s.

Geer has struggled on the road, but the Mariners have not exactly been lighting up the scoreboard. Mariners are scoring 4.24 runs per 9 innings in their last 5 vs. RHP.

According to our NL West run line percentage sports blog post the Padres have lost 69.5% of their away games by more than 1 run. I’d say it’s not a good spot to take the run line against a struggling Mariners club.

Notables:

Last 3 Starts
Carl Pavano (1-1, 1.45WHIP, 7.23ERA)
Rich Harden (0-2, 1.53WHIP, 6.88 ERA)
Braden Looper (0-2, 1.40WHIP, 7.47ERA)

Probable Hot Pitchers on Wednesday:

Nick Blackburn (Twins, 6-2, 3.09ERA)

Blackburn has been solid all season long particularly more so as of late. He has just 1 win to show for his 24 innings pitched in his last three starts where he has allowed less than 1 runner an inning on base (.96) and he has a 1.88ERA.

Bet at 5Dimes

He has a 2.61 ERA at home and a 3.46 ERA on the road where he will be today visiting the Brewers going up against Braden Looper. The Twins have struggled on the road mightily, but Blackburn has given them an opportunity to win each of his last three road starts going 21IP and giving up just 6ER.

I think he may struggle a bit against the Brewers here today, but should be in good shape to pick up the win in my opinion, but then again I would not suggest following the Twins on the road. The Twins are 12-21 on the road this year.

Dan haren (Diamondbacks, 6-4, 2.23ERA)

Haren would likely be part of the Cy Young discussion if his team could win him a game. Haren has allowed well below a runner per inning this season at 0.82. His team has just not produced for him as they are 15-23 at home. Last night was a good sign as the Diamondbacks scored 8 to win 8-2.

Haren has been dominant all year long and in his last three he has gone 23IP gone 2-0 with a 0.70 WHIP and a 1.57 ERA. He has taken his record into his own hands it seems with those numbers.

Arizona will be at home against the Rangers again here today going up against Vincente Padilla who has pitched well this season. .

Notables:

Last 3 Starts
John Lester (1-1, 0.76WHIP, 1.71ERA)
Richie Nolasco (1-1, 1.11WHIP, 2.50ERA)
Fernando Nieve (2-0, 0.95WHIP, 2.13ERA)
Gavin Floyd (1-0, 0.83WHIP, 1.25ERA)
Jason Marquis (2-0, 1.25WHIP, 2.41ERA)
