The Nationals and Rockies conclude a 3 game set inside Coors Field as the Nationals try to complete the 3 game sweep with ace Max Scherzer on the hill.

With wins in the first two games of the series, Washington has climbed back to over the .500 mark.

The Nationals took care of business in game 2 with a 4-1 win behind Stephen Strasburg’s solid performance.

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa equaled Strasburg’s performance, but couldn’t find any help from his offense.

RH Max Scherzer will try to rebound from easily his worst outing of the season. He’ll be opposed by LH Yohan Flande of the Rockies.

Washington Nationals

The Nationals falling under the .500 mark was a surprising sight for a team that has played so well all season long. With winning the first 2 games of the series, they now sit 1 game above the break-even mark.

Now, they sit 3.5 behind the Mets for first place in the NL East and 7.5 off the pace in the Wild Card.

OF Jayson Werth played hero on Wednesday night as he blasted a 2 run triple in the 8th inning to break a 1-1 tie. Werth is 4 for 10 in the series.

The Nationals will go with RH Max Scherzer to try and complete the sweep of the Rockies.

Scherzer was blasted in his last start as he allowed 6 runs in just 3.0 innings of work in a loss to the San Francisco Giants last time out. He allowed 2 home runs in the loss.

Scherzer recently faced these Rockies and received a ND after allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 10.

In 6 career starts against the Rockies, Scherzer is just 1-3 with an ERA of 4.33.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies season has been one to forget. Sitting 22 games under .500, Colorado is just going to try and play spoiler down the stretch of the season.

The Rockies offense has been solid inside Coors Field, but was shut down by a hot Nationals’ pitcher in game 2 of the series.

Colorado will go with LH Yohan Flande, who will be making just his 5th start of the season.Flande was paired up with Scherzer back on August 9th and received a ND allowing 3 runs on 6 hits in just 4.2 innings. All 3 runs came via solo home runs.
