Minnesota grabbed the early edge in this series by pounding out a 9-2 victory on Tuesday night as a 136 road underdog. The red-hot Twins have now won eight straight heading into Wednesday’s game. They have climbed to a respectable 32-39 after a dreadful start and are now just 6.5 games in back of Cleveland in the AL Central. Minnesota is 14-16 at home and 18-23 on the road.

The winning streak has been fuelled by both solid pitching and hitting as Minnesota has outscored its opponents 40-14 in the eight games. Brian Duensing will try and keep things going in his 14th start this season. The left hander is 4-6 this year with an ERA of 4.82. His last time out he held San Diego to two earned runs on seven hits to get the win. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

San Francisco is headed in the opposite direction with five straight losses. The Giants are now a half game behind Arizona in the NL West with an overall record of 39-34. They are 20-21 on the road and 19-13 at home.

Since All-Star catcher Buster Posey was lost for the season with a broken ankle, San Francisco is one game under .500 with a record of 12-13. It has fallen to 14th in the NL in hitting with a team batting average of .239 and last in runs scored with 250.

Fortunately, the Giants will have staff ‘ace’ Tim Lincecum on the mound tonight to try and turn things around. This year has not been one of his best so far with a 5-6 record and 3.39 ERA through 15 starts. Lincecum has not won a game since May 27 and has given up 18 earned runs in his four starts since then.

Regardless of Lincecum’s recent form, the Giants should open as a solid favorite in this one. They are 23-18 this year as a favorite, while the Twins are 23-26 as an underdog. Stick with the home team in this one as its ‘ace’ rebounds with a strong night on the mound.
