Tuesday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Tuesday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests.

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers going on Tuesday:

Mark Buehrle (White Sox, 8-2, 3.09ERA)

Buehrle has pitched better on the road this year than he has in previous years as he has a 3.35ERA, but like always he is stellar at home with a 2.88ERA and a 4-1 record. Coming off possibly his best game of the year he pitched 8.1IP and gave up 1ER on 6H to the Royals. Today he will go up against the Cleveland Indians.

The Indians have a .284 average against Buehrle led by Victor Martinez (19-53, 3HR, .358avg) and Ryan Garko (11-22, 1HR). The Indians will send Sowers to the mound who has gotten beaten up by the White Sox over his career. The LHP has a 7.77ERA in 6 starts vs. the White Sox while he is also 1-2 with a 6.75ERA in his last three starts.

Worth noting is Buehrle has struggled vs. the Indians especially on the road. However, at home in his last two starts he has 14IP and only 2ER.

Javier Vazquez, (5-7, 3.05ERA)

It This will be the second time in less than two weeks that Vazquez faces the Cubs against Dempster. The first meeting led to a home victory where Javier owns a 2.99 ERA. This time he will go up against the Cubs at Wrigley where he has not faired well over his career. The Cubs as a team own a .294average and they had 9 hits off him last game.

Derek Lee 21-53 with 3HR leads the charge against Vazquez, but the Cubs do own the 27th ranked offense. That number should be helped by the fact that Aramis Ramirez is now back and they moved the struggling Soriano out of the lead off spot.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Josh Johnson (Marlins, 1-0, 1.47WHIP, 2.76ERA)
Josh Beckett (Red Sox, 2-0, 0.83WHIP, 1.96ERA)
John Lackey (Angels, 1.13WHIP, 2.35ERA)
Erik Bedard (Mariners, 3-0, 1.22WHIP, 2.00ERA)
Yovani Gallardo (Brewers, 1-2, 1.06WHIP, 2.08ERA)
Brian Moehler (Astros, 2-0, 1.18WHIP, 2.65ERA)
Jordan Zimmermann (Nationals, 1-0, 1.12WHIP, 1.93ERA)
Doug Davis (Diamondbacks, 0-0, 1.48WHIP, 0.86ERA)

Probable Cold Pitchers on Tuesday:

Dana Eveland (1-1, 2.41WHIP, 7.40ERA)

Dana is pitching lately much like what his name indicates….To be more clear he is throwing like a girl! I don’t believe he has a prayer on Tuesday night going up against Josh Beckett and the Red Sox. The A’s shutout the the Red Sox last night 6-0 and I expect the Red Sox hitters to bounce back big time behind their ace.

Eveland who has the 7.90 ERA in his last three is allowing well over 2 runners on base per inning. He is worse on the road with a 8.59ERA in just 3 starts.

Paul Maholm(5-4, 4.69ERA)

You know it’s going bad when you give up 11H and 6ER to the New York Mets. The Mets who have struggled to score more than 1 run beat up Maholm in his last start. He is due for a bounce back start but here against Houston on the road… I doubt it.

Maholm’s ERA has ballooned to 4.69 in his last 4 starts where he has an 8.95ERA! His ERA before these 4 starts was 3.61! He will have to start on the road again where he has a 6.05ERA and the Astros seem to be starting to hit with Berkman. We will see if Maholm continues his dominance vs. the Astros as they are hitting just .227 off Maholm.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

C.C. Sabathia (Yankees, 1-1, 1.43WHIP, 5.14ERA)
Jeremy Sowers (Indians, 1-2, 1.73WHIP, 6.75ERA)
Barry Zito (Giants (1-1, 1.18WHIP, 5.29ERA)
