Minnesota narrowly missed losing 100 games last year, and they are a dreadful 8-23 coming into this game.

Toronto took the series opener 6-2 last night, and the Blue Jays come into this one with a 18-14 record on the year.

Toronto plays in the difficult AL East, but they are a very solid team. They have plenty of young pitching talent and some big boppers on offense.

Toronto is seventh in the majors in runs scored per game at 4.75 so far in 2012. The most amazing part is they have done it without much production from Jose Bautista. Bautista is hitting .177 with just five homers this season. Edwin Encarnacion has been a major bright spot, and he has 10 homers and 28 RBI’s. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Kyle Drabek has pitched pretty well this year. He seems to have improved with consistency, and his ERA of 3.35 is impressive.

Minnesota was counting on Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer staying healthy this year to try to help them return to competing for the division title.

Morneau is already on the disabled list, but it has been the pitching staff that has made this team the worst in the majors. Minnesota’s pitching staff ranks last in the majors in almost every key statistic. The team ERA is an outrageous 5.47. They have gotten just eight quality starts from their starting pitchers all season. Nick Blackburn is 0-4 with a 6.84 ERA this year.

Josh Willingham and Denard Span have been the rare bright spots in the Twins organization in 2012. Willingham already has 7 homers and 18 RBI’s, which are both team best marks.

Blackburn has been terrible this year and the Blue Jays offense is very good. Toronto is the much better team.
