The offensive show put on by these sides on Tuesday had a lot to do with the red-hot Salvador Perez, who has been swinging a real hot stick of late. In his last three games, Perez has hit 7-for-13 with a pair of doubles and a home run, driving in four runs on Tuesday. This recent hot stretch has seen him raise his batting average 47 points after a slow start to the year.

On Wednesday, he’ll be catching for youngster Yordano Ventura, who came up through the organization with a reputation as a fireballer, but has proven he is much more than that. Ventura has looked solid thus far this season. In addition to being able to hit 100 mph on a radar gun, Ventura has shown an ability to use his change-up and curveball effectively to get batters out, and as he continues to develop, he’s only going to give opposing hitters a tougher and tougher time.

In his last outing, Ventura threw eight innings of scoreless ball against the Orioles, surrendering seven hits while striking out eight to help the team to an easy victory over Baltimore.

Ventura’s lone loss came in the day time, and he is 2-0 with a 0.43 ERA in three starts at night this season.

The Blue Jays counter with Drew Hutchison. He’s had a nice start to the year after missing all of 2013 following Tommy John surgery. Hutchison has given up two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, though run support has been at a premium for the Blue Jays, as he’s received a no-decision in each of those outings. His last start came against the Orioles as well, and in it, he gave up two runs in six innings of work, scattering six hits while striking out nine.

There were fireworks in game one of this series on Tuesday night, but don’t expect more of the same on Wednesday with a pair of solid starting pitchers meeting up in what should be a tightly contested battle. Neither side needed to lean on their bullpen much in Tuesday’s affair, so both units should be ready to offer up effective relief.

The under is 4-0 in Hutchison’s last four road starts, and 12-5-1 in the Royals’ last 18 games versus American League East opponents.

The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams.

The play: Under 8.5
