Pitchers Report for Thursday June 25th

Thursday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Thursday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests.

Probable Cold Pitchers going on Thursday:

Armando Galarraga (Tigers, 3-7, 5.62ERA)

In his first two appearances of June he had an ERA under 4.00, but he has struggled in his last two starts he has pitched a whopping total of 6 innings. He’ll have to make a nice comeback game here today and I think he is capable of it.

For what it is worth Galarraga has never faced the Cubs and he has pitched well during the day 3.38ERA with a 3-0 record. His main issue has been the long ball. He might feel a little better facing the Cubs who are ranked just 15th in the league in HR.

Rich Hill (Orioles, 3-1, 5.18ERA)

Hill’s ERA last 3 games of 7.15 and WHIP of 1.94 is a little inflated here if you ask me, but that is why I’m putting him down here. Sometimes I like to show you who appears to be struggling, but it is just an illusion. Now I wouldn’t go crazy over this guy today as I really like the way the Marlins have been playing, but there are many times where stats lie!

Hill had a terrible performance in Oakland two starts ago where he pitched just 2/3 of an inning and gave up 3ER. He since has thrown 6.2IP gave up 2ER in his last start. However, he still has the 5.18ERA on the season.

The Marlins will send Sean West to the mound so you will get a pair of LHP on the mound tonight that have never faced the opposing team. Both teams have struggled hitting lefties as of late. The Marlins last five have hit .286 with 2.93 runs per 9 while the Orioles fall in at .254 and 3.18.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Antonio Bastardo (1-2, 1.46WHIP, 6.92ERA)
Andy Sonnanstine (1-2, 1.18WHIP, 5.31ERA)
Brian Moehler (2-1, 1.53ERA, 6.6OERA)
Derek Lowe (1-2, 1.72WHIP, 7.47ERA
Ross Ohlendorf (1-2, 1.24WHIP, 5.29ERA)
Brett Cecil (1-1, 1.70WHIP, 7.13ERA)

Probable Hot Pitchers on Thursday:

Ted Lilly (Cubs, 7-4, 3.04ERA)

Lilly has really contributed and improved through the summer here. In June he is posting a 1.98ERA in 4 GS. In his last 3 starts he owns just a 1-0 record despite allowing less than 1 runner to get on base with a (0.98WHIP) and a 2.21ERA.

Bet at 5Dimes

I expect him to continue to pitch well and with aggression since he deserves more than 7 wins to this point.

Lilly will go up against a Tigers team who will face the struggling Galarraga today. The Tigers are hitting just .211 off LHP in their last 5 games. His last start against the Blue Jays came in 2006 when he played for Toronto. He went 6IP gave up 1ER and had 9K’s.

Lilly should be well prepared for his day start where he has an ERA of 2.59 compared to his 3.42 night ERA. However, he has had road struggles with 4.40 compared to his home 1.85 tread softly!

Chris Carpenter (Cardinals, 5-1, 1.53ERA)

Seems like we place Carpenter here automatically in every start he makes! Thursday he’ll make a day start vs. the Mets who scored 11 runs last night and won 11-0 in impressing fashion. Carpenter however in his last three starts 1-1, 0.87WHIP, and a 3.05ERA. I see that ERA a little high compared to the WHIP tells me he has been a little unlucky.

Carpenter has not pitched as well on the road as he has at home 2.15ERA compared to his 0.43ERA, but he’ll go up against Santana who has struggled as of late in what should be a very exciting pitcher’s duel. Hold onto your hats and do not bet on the side! You are better off flipping a coin!!

Worth noting is Carpenter’s preparation for day games where he has a 0.40 ERA in three games started this year compared to his 2.25ERA at night. He has given up just 1 run in 22.2IP during his day starts.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Brian Bannister (1-1, 0.86WHIP, 1.29ERA)
Cliff Lee (1-0, 1.18WHIP, 2.86ERA)
Jordan Zimmermann (0-1, 1.02WHIP, 2.16ERA)
