Thursday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Thursday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests.

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers going on Thursday:

C.C. Sabathia (Yankees, 7-4, 3.55ERA)

Sabathia goes up against the Mariners who he has not faced since 2007. He is however 4-1 with a 1.71ERA in his last 6 starts vs. the Mariners. The Mariners have a team average of .265 vs. Sabathia and if you take Ichiro out of the line up (.395avg) they are hitting just .231 against him.

Sabathia is coming off his outing vs. the Mets where he went 7 innings and gave up 1ER a HR and only 3H. He returns home to pitch at night where he owns a 2.46ERA in night pitching this year. The juice is ridiculous already on Sabathia at -270 and many are going to be on the run line, but I would tell you to stay far away from this game. We will not be releasing this game as a free sports pick.

Mariners are hitting lefties well right now .297 6.32 runs per 9 innings and although Sabathia has pitched well in his last 10 starts now 6-1 with a 2.83ERA he has not pitched nearly as well at home as he has on the road.

Doug Davis (Diamondbacks, 3-8 (Team 4-12) 3.10ERA)

Yes you read his stats right he has been the definition of no run support. The Diamondbacks have wasted many quality starts from Davis and in his last three games he has a 1.83ERA and nothing to show for it. Look for him to be motivated here as they go up against Aaron Harang who is on our notable cold starters.

He is coming off a very impressive start vs. the hot Angels last time out where he went 7 innings gave up just 5H and struck out 8 batters. The game will be a day start at 12:35pm et where Davis has been lights out this year with a 1.68ERA compared to his 4.83 night ERA.

However, he will face a line up that is hitting lefties quite hard as of late .351 average and 6.71 runs per 9 innings over their last 5 games. You want sports betting tips? Stay far away from this game there are too many uncertainties.

Worth noting is the Reds have a .300 average lifetime vs. Davis and Brandon Phillips is 8-17 with a .471 average.

Comment over in our baseball betting forum on who you think will pitch the best out of Thursday’s Hot starters.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Kevin Correia (Padres, 0.51WHIP, 2.49ERA)
John Lackie (Angels, 1.41WHIP, 2.86ERA)
Javier Vazquez (Braves, 1.16WHIP, 2.01ERA)

Probable Cold Pitchers on Thursday:

Jason Vargas (Mariners, 3-3, 3.79ERA)

You want my sports betting advice? Vargas is the reason why the Yankees are such huge favorites!

Bet at 5Dimes

Vargas is coming off a bit of a rough road start here giving up 9H and 5ER to the Dodgers. In fact Vargas has been night and day away from home. At home he owns a 1.67ERA but on the road it has been a different story for him with a 5.86ERA.

Vargas will go up against a hot hitting Yankee club. The one thing he has going for him is that the Yankee hitters have never faced him. Only Xavier Nady has any kind of AB but Nady won’t be there to share his tips as he is still on the DL. The Yankees .231 and 5.68 runs per 9 innings last 5 does not look like a bad bet on the Mariners with all the value you get with them as +250 dogs, but I won’t bark at that.

Aaron Harang (Reds, 5-8, 3.95ERA)

Harang also a victim of bad luck and limited run support posts some good numbers, but a 5-8 record just won’t get it done. He has struggled as of late 0-2 1.61WHIP and a 5.27ERA in his last three starts.

Harang who loves starting during the day and at home even more will look for a bounce back start after allowing 5ER on 10H in just 4.2IP at Cleveland last time out. Harang has a 2.87ERA at home while pitching during day he owns a 1.91 ERA this year. Look for him to bounce back here if you want my handicapping opinion. He will have a tough match up against Doug Davis though one of our hot pitchers.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Paul Maholm (Pirates, 1-2, 1.94WHIP, 7.94ERA)
Tim Redding (Mets, 1-1, 1.42WHIP, 6.62ERA)
Wandy Rodriguez (Astros, 1-1, 1.59WHIP, 5.82ERA)
Barry Zito (Giants, 1-1, 1.35WHIP, 6.61ERA)
Todd Wellemeyer (Cardinals, 1-1, 2.25WHIP, 6.75ERA)
Ryan Dempster (Cubs, 0-2 1.87WHIP, 5.09ERA)
