Wednesday July 4
U.S. Cellular Field – Chicago, IL
7:10PM
Moneyline: Texas -115, Chicago +105
O/U: 10
PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Scott Feldman (2-6, 6.13 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Dylan Axelrod (0-1, 4.50)
Texas
If you read my game preview from yesterday you will see that I wasn’t buying the hollow dominance of Roy Oswalt and thought the Rangers would have some trouble solving the White Sox Chris Sale. The pitching matchup in this one though is just awful, makes it hard to believe that these two teams might be destined to meet in the playoffs.
Scott Feldman, filling in for one of a few injured starters, was dreadful in losing his first 6 starts. His overall numbers have not improved a ton but he has won his last two decisions. Feldman owns a 2-2 record against Chicago but let’s be honest – if the Rangers are going to come back strong on the 4th of July it is going to be because of offensive fireworks not pitching from this guy. Chicago
The White Sox are looking to finish strong heading into the All-Star break. The first step was to snap the short losing streak started at New York which could easily have gotten larger with the Rangers coming to town. So far so good on that front. Now they just have to hope that rookie Dylan Axelrod can once again slow a powerful lineup – he beat the Yankees in the Bronx last time out.
4th of July is a nice time to be hosting a baseball game especially if you are feeling good. I am shocked that the White Sox are the slight underdog in this one considering the opposing pitcher. Sure Dylan Axelrod is not a household name but he has been solid (push at least). If this becomes a slugfest the White Sox are more than capable of defending themselves. Texas has the rep but this team is in the top 10 in runs and homers too.
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Chicago 7 – Texas 5
