MLB Betting – Zito, Wainwright could make it a long night for hitters in the Bay

While Thunder vs Lakers odds will take the attention of many California natives, there could be a great pitching duel on tap in San Francisco on Saturday night as Barry Zito and the Giants will host Adam Wainwright and St. Louis, and with both pitchers having ERAs under 2.00, batters will have to bring their A games.

Cardinals vs Giants odds – Saturday, April 24, 9:00 PM ET

Adam Wainwright (3-0, 1.50) will find himself in more Cy Young discussions if he continues his play to start the season, as he tossed a complete-game four-hitter in a 5-3 win at home over the New York Mets in his last outing. Only two of the three runs were earned by Wainwright, who struck out nine and walked two, after coming in third in last year’s Cy Young voting, the 28-year-old righthander is ready to show that he, and not Chris Carpenter, is the ace in St. Louis. In five career games against the Giants, including three starts, Wainwright is 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA, giving up 28 hits in 26.2 innings.

Kentucky Derby betting players are all about thoroughbreds, and the Giants have a couple of them in the baseball sense in reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, but if Zito (2-0, 1.86) keeps this up, the Giants will run away with the West.

The 2002 AL Cy Young winner was unlucky to earn a no-decision in a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles to the Dodgers, allowing a run on four hits over 7.1 innings with three strikeouts. After walking three batters in his last outing, Zito walked just one Dodger, and his control seems to be coming back to him.

He’ll need to be at his best against the Cardinals as he is 0-4 in five starts while facing St. Louis, posting a 5.54 ERA, and the Cardinals are hitting .339 off him.

The Giants should be the MLB betting favorites at home in the second of this three-game weekend set, and heading into Friday’s opener, the Cardinals have lost six of their last 10 in San Francisco.

We’re willing to bet that Wainwright gives the Cardinals an edge in this contest. Zito is off to a great start, and we know he is a solid control pitcher, but with his past, we’re not sold on him fully turning it around this year. We know what Wainwright can do, and he looks even better than he did last year.

It would have been fun to see Wainwright go against Lincecum on Friday, or Cain on Sunday, but this will do.

Gambling Trends:

San Francisco is 9-2 SU in its last 11 games at home
San Francisco is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against St. Louis
San Francisco is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games when playing St. Louis
San Francisco is 15-8 SU in its last 23 games
St. Louis is 3-7 SU in its last 10 games when playing San Francisco
St. Louis is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games when playing on the road against San Francisco

Sports betting pick: St. Louis Cardinals
