St. Louis

Injuries are ripping at the depth of their pitching staff with Michael Wacha and Jaime Garcia both out.

With their offense still not coming through that puts an awful lot of pressure on some inexperienced arms. The Cards are just looking to get to the break in decent shape.

One of those arms is Marco Gonzales who made his MLB debut in Colorado and was treated with the usual stuff at Coors.

The outing could be an aberration for a pitcher who was tearing up the Minors or it could be an indicator that he is not quite ready yet. The Giants are not as fearsome as the Rox and the environment will be more inviting for sure.

He is just 22 and further evidence that the St. Louis system is stacked.

San Francisco

The Giants were tied with L.A. entering Monday action with the Dodgers having a chance to slip ahead or behind with a victory. It is easy to give up ground quickly when you lose 7 of 10.

As I have feared all along this team may not have the offensive juice to get it done unless someone steps up and starts smacking the ball. In their last 10 they have scored more than 4 runs just once.

Further they are leaning a little too hard on the guys like Mike Morse. The need the Kung Fu Panda to kick it into gear.

These days you never can tell with Tim Lincecum. You had to like his chances against San Diego the last time out but a no-hitter, and an efficient one like that – who would have thought.

Lincecum has been a difference pitcher at home than on the road this season but the St. Louis lineup is considerably better than the Padres. The key as always will be keeping his walks down.

He has not issues more than 2 free passes in his last 4 starts.

I think Gonzales can baffle this Giants lineup while his teammates knockout Lincecum kind of early. These days he is anything but consistent and his last performance was just too good.

The Giants are in trouble and St. Louis is hardly a soft landing spot for a team desperately in need of turning things around.

Total prediction:  Over
Score prediction:  St. Louis 5 – San Francisco 3
