The Mariners (51-44) now return to Angles Stadium in search of their first playoff spot in 12 seasons, when they start another three-game series against their red-hot division rival on Friday.

Seattle sits eight games behind the American League West-leading Oakland A’s, and are 2 1/2-games ahead in the race for the second wild card.

The Angels (57-37) meanwhile, are 1 1/2 games behind Oakland after posting a major league-best 26-9 record since June 6.

They Halos where led by all-star MVP Mike Trout who leads the team in almost every offensive category, including batting average, home runs and RBIs.

However, Anaheim has also received plenty of help from first baseman Albert Pujols, who had four homers and 20 RBIs in his last 19 games.

Seattle will try and halt the Angles’ offense by sending Hisashi Iwakuma to the hill in the opener. The lefty is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA over his last three starts with 25 strikeouts and no walks and is 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA in six career games against Anaheim.

The Angels will counter with right-hander Jered Weaver who despite battling lower back issues in his previous start, tossed seven strong frames against Texas last Saturday. The 31-year-old is 14-9 with a 3.30 ERA in 29 career starts against Seattle and has held M’s slugger Justin Smoak to just three homers, going 9-for-31 against him.

He will however be tested by the rest to the Seattle lineup that is led by second baseman Robinson Cano, who is batting .334 with 57 RBIs.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Angles –

Iwakuma has been on fire and now being fully healthy after dealing with several injuries early in the season, might have the momentum here.
Nevertheless, I don’t expect him to be able to stop the Angels, who are getting hotter by the game.

I will put my faith in the Halos to get this one done at home.
