The Los Angles Angels have dominated the AL West the past few seasons winning three division titles in a row. Last year they finished 97-65; three wins less than in 2008 but this was still good enough to win the division by 10 games.

They went on to sweep Boston 3-0 in the divisional round of the playoffs, but lost to the Yankees in the ALCS in six games. The Rangers finished the season 87-75, winning eight more games than they did in 2008.

Seattle was 12 games back at 85-77 which was an impressive 24 game improvement over their 61 wins in 2008. Oakland was the only team in the division with a losing record, finishing 75-87, 22 games back.

Here is a look at each team in the AL Central odds to win the division this season as well as the over/under on their season win totals.

Los Angeles Angels
Odds to Win the AL West   7-4
Win Total Over/Under 84.5

Much has been made about the loss of ace John Lackey, Vladimir Geurrero and Chone Figgens this past offseason. These losses will have an impact, but with starters Jered Weaver and Joe Saunders and closer Brain Fuentes their pitching is still solid and with Hideki Matsui, Bobby Abreu and Kendry Morales there is still enough offensive talent on this team to keep them a top the division for another year.

Oakland Athletics
Odds to Win the AL West   8-1
Win Total Over/Under 79.5

With Ben Sheets, Brett Anderson, and Justin Dutchscherer the A’s have the makings of a very good starting rotation. With Andrew Bailey and Brad Ziegler in the bullpen their pitching should be solid throughout. While they will not be known for their batting power, players like Rajai Davis and Coco Crisp do bring some speed to the lineup. They are still a year or two away from seriously competing for the division, but I do like their chances to win 80+ games this year.Bet on Baseball at sportsbook.com

Seattle Mariners
Odds to Win the AL West   2-1
Win Total Over/Under 83.5

Adding Cliff Lee with Felix Hernandez gives the Mariners a strong one-two punch in the starting rotation. Couple this with a very good bullpen and a strong defense they should be one of the best defensive teams in the league. The only real weakness on this team is their ability to score runs but the addition of Chone Figgens and Milton Bradley should provide some help. Look for them to push the Angels deep into September for the division title.

Texas Rangers
Odds to Win the AL West   2-1
Win Total Over/Under 84.5

Adding P Rich Harden to go along with Scott Feldman and Derek Holland in the starting rotation was a good move, but there are still question marks in their bull pen that have yet to be answered. Offensively there are still some health concerns with Josh Hamilton, but by adding Vladimir Guerrero as a DH along with players like Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz they should be able to score some runs. While they have the talent to compete with the Angels this season, I actually see the Rangers taking a step backwards from last season’s 87 win total.
