San Francisco

Overall they are looking as expected this season with a solid staff and middle of the pack offense, the one exception has been the home runs they have hit – 3rd in the league.

The offense could even take another leap power wise if Kung Fu Panda, Pablo Sandoval starts producing.

After a couple of years of strong performances Ryan Vogelsong was vey ineffective last season. This year he has been a bit better so far but his ERA is still more than a run higher than when he won 14 games in 2012 and all of his peripherals are higher two.

Before too long they are going to have to make an assessment at to whether after a nice renaissance he has simpy used up all he has in the tank.

Los Angeles

The Dodgers have to be disappointed that they find themselves in third place looking up at the Giants and Rockies right now. Sure it is early but they were poised to dominate this season and it hasn’t happened.

When you look at the offense player by player th enumbres donn’t look all that bad but it hasn’t added up the way you would think as they are just middle of the pack. The pitching too has been good but not as good as expected.

Getting the best pitcher in baseball back should have an effect though.

Veteran righty Josh Beckett has been mostly good this season.

He has yet to record a victory but his peripherals are very strong and on a team like Los Angeles that is bound to turn around quickly. He has made one start against the Giants and it was a brilliant if limited outing in which he held San Francisco to 2 hits and O earned runs over 5 innnings – he didn’t walk anyone either.

He is still capable of this kind of dominance just not for an entire game anymore.

Until I am proven wrong more than once I am going to fade Ryan Vogelsong. He is not looking good and San Francisco is not exactly the kind of offensive team that I want to rely on to bail him out. Beckett still has it in him to dominate for short stints and the bullpen is solid in support.

L.A. has an offense that just needs some better cluster luck.

Total prediction: Over
Score prediction: Los Angeles 7 – San Francisco 3
