Colorado’s three-game interleague series against Cleveland ended on a sour note after taking the first two with a 4-3 loss on Wednesday night as a 122 road favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the nine run line. The Rockies are now 37-37 overall and 3.5 games behind Arizona in the NL West. They are even across the board with a 19-19 record at home and an 18-18 record on the road.

This team’s lineup has showed its power lately with an average of 5.75 runs in its last eight games. Colorado is ranked fourth in the National League in scoring with 4.5 runs per game with Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez combining for 92 RBI.

Ubaldo Jimenez will get the start for the Rockies on Friday. The staff ‘ace’ has had a rough go of it this season with a 2-7 record and a 4.68 ERA in 13 starts. He earned his second win the last time out; holding Detroit to three earned runs on eight hits in five innings of work. He left in the sixth inning with a minor calf injury, but should be good to go for this game.

New York has not skipped a beat since putting Derek Jeter on the DL with a strained calf on June 14. It is 7-2 with him out of the lineup and just a half a game behind Boston in the AL East. The Yankees are coming off a 10-2 rout at the hands of Cincinnati as a 132 road underdog on Wednesday night to fall to 43-30 on the year. They are 20-13 on the road and 23-17 at home. A.J. Burnett is scheduled to get the start for New York in this one. He is 7-5 this season with a 1.22 WHIP and an ERA of 4.05 in 15 previous starts. Last time out, he gave up four hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work against the Cubs. Burnett is 2-2 with a 2.40 ERA lifetime against the Rockies.

These two teams last met in 2007 with the Rockies pulling off a three-game sweep at home. For the first game of this series, stick with New York to grab the early edge with a win in its home park.
