Cincinnati             +165
Philadelphia         -185
Total – 7

The Cincinnati Reds will try and even this series at a game apiece after losing Game 1 to the Phillies this past Wednesday afternoon. Game 2 from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 8 with the first pitch at 6 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast live on TBS.

Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay joined Don Larson as the only two pitchers in Major League history to throw a no-hitter in the postseason after blanking the Reds 4-0 in Game 1. Halladay exhibited perfect control throughout the game as he kept ahead of the count against one Cincinnati batter after another. If not for the one walk he issued in the fifth inning it would have been his second perfect game of the season.

The Phillies offense did all of their scoring in the first two innings as they knocked Reds’ starter Edison Volquez out after only 1 2/3 innings by putting four quick runs on the board. It really did not matter who Cincinnati sent to the mound after that because enough damage had already been done.

The Reds will go with right hander Bronson Arroyo as their starter for this game. Arroyo went 17-10 in 33 starts this season and ended the year with a 3.88 ERA. He got the win in three of his final four starts and has not lost since giving up eight hits and seven earned runs in a Sept. 8 loss to Colorado. Lifetime against the Phillies he is 1-5 with an ERA of 5.54.

Philadelphia will send its second best Roy to the mound in this game; right hander Roy Oswalt. He went 13-13 on the year and ended the season with a 2.76 ERA. Oswalt has been lights out down the stretch as he is 6-0 in his last 10 starts with a 1.42 ERA. He spells more bad news for Cincinnati, with a 23-3 record and 2.81 ERA lifetime against the Reds.

Wednesday’s win gives Philadelphia its eighth victory over Cincinnati in the last 10 games these two teams have played one another. The Phillies have actually won the last five straight including three straight shutouts. The last time the Reds scored against Philadelphia was back on July 9th when they lost 9-7.

Oswalt will do his job, but the Phillies will need better production from Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, who went a combined 0-7 in Game 1. The Reds just need someone to put the ball in play to try and get some runners on the base. Even though Cincinnati had the best hitting team in the NL with a team batting average of .272 and 790 runs scored, this series will still come down to pitching which is clearly in Philadelphia favor in this game.
