MLB Game Preview for September 28, 2010: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays

The sports betting excitement in the race for the AL East pennant looks like it could go right down to the last day of the season. After jumping back into first place two weeks ago, the New York Yankees have fallen to a half game out of the first place Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees and the Rays have been going back and forth for the lead in the AL East most of the season, and now it looks like they will need every game on the schedule to come up with an AL East pennant winner.

There is excitement for the NFL betting on the New York Jets this season, but the Yankees have not been involved in a battle for the AL East pennant like this in years. Normally it is the Boston Red Sox breathing down the Yankees necks, but this time the Tampa Bay Rays are giving the Yankees all they can handle.

To make the MLB betting in this series a bit more complicated, the Yankees and the Rays are both 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Yankees recently beat the Boston Red Sox putting the Red Sox one game away from being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, and the Rays lost to the Seattle Mariners.

Even with all they have done to keep pace with the Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays are still the underdog in the battle for the AL East pennant. The sportsbook reviews have the Rays as +500 to win the World Series and the Yankees at +200. But the Rays are ignoring the experts and giving the Yankees a battle like they have not had in years.

The Toronto Blue Jays can still hit the ball a mile. They are a home run team that has problems getting runners on base. The Blue Jays also suffer from a lack of quality starting pitching. The Blue Jays have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but that has not stopped them from winning seven of their last 10 games including a four-game winning streak. The Blue Jays come into this series with the Yankees on quite a roll, and they get to play the part of spoiler if they can take a couple from the Yankees in this series.

It looks like the Yankees are keeping their starting rotation in order and sending CC Sabathia to the mound against the Blue Jays in this game. Sabathia is a 20-game winner with a 20-7 record and a 3.26 ERA. That could change by game time if the Yankees feel it necessary to rest Sabathia for the playoffs. In his last start Sabathia gave up seven runs in only 5 2/3 innings. The Yankees may want to protect their ace and avoid the big bats of the Blue Jays.

Since they are out of the playoffs the Blue Jays will be looking at a lot of players for their  2011 roster. Kyle Drabek gives it another try on the mound in this game. Drabek is a 22-year-old rookie right-handed pitcher with a 0-2 record and a 4.91 ERA in the majors. He is trying to at least pitch his way into the Blue Jays bullpen next season.

Pick: New York Yankees 6-2
