Carlos Silva (1-0, 0.69) vs Oliver Perez (0-1, 3.75)
To say that Silva pitches to contact is a hilarious understatement – opponents hit .303 off him all-time – but the guy does nothing but throw strikes and that’s worth something.
At first glance, Silva could be in trouble against the Mets tonight. After all, he has a lifetime ERA north of 8.00 against them. But that stat is hugely misleading; all the Mets with good histories against Silva don’t play for the Mets anymore.
Nothing in the stats suggests New York’s current popgun attack will cause him problems. 
Hey – maybe, just maybe Oliver Perez is back to his reasonably useful self. He’s the anti-Silva; he walks everyone but he strikes out tons of guys and doesn’t give up many hits.
That said – the Cubs’ plethora of right-handed power bats could give him trouble. He’s just 1-3 with a 5.53 ERA and nine homers (plus 28 walks) allowed in 42.1 innings against Chicago.
Based on the matchup, the Cubbies look like a superb play tonight.
