NLDS – Game 3 Preview
Philadelphia Phillies @ Cincinnati Reds
Sunday, Oct. 10   7 P.M. (ET).
Philadelphia    -135
Cincinnati       +125
Total – 7 ½

The series shifts to the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati where the Philadelphia Phillies will try and sweep this best-of-five series after winning the first two at home. Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 10 with the first pitch at 7 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast live on TBS.

Philadelphia won Game 1 with some perfect pitching on its part and Game 2 on some imperfect play by the opposing team. Phillies ace Roy Halladay became only the second pitcher in Major League history to throw a no-hitter in postseason play when he blanked Cincinnati 4-0 in Game 1 this past Wednesday afternoon. The Reds became the first team in league history to commit four errors in a NLDS playoff game, resulting in a crushing 7-4 loss in Game 2 on Friday night. The Phillies are now just one win away from advancing to their third straight National League Championship Series.

Philadelphia will go with left hander Cole Hamels in this game. He is the third of the Phillies three-headed pitching machine commonly referred to as H20 (Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt). He went 12-11 this season with an ERA of 3.06 and pitched lights out down the stretch, giving up only seven earned runs in his last seven starts. Hamels is probably the last pitcher Cincinnati wants to face on the brink of elimination. He is 6-0 with a 1.07 ERA in seven career starts against the Reds.

Cincinnati will turn to right hander Johnny Cueto to keep its postseason dreams alive. He was 12-7 with a 3.64 ERA in 31 starts this year. His last outing was on Sept. 29 against Houston where he pitched eight strong innings, giving up eight hits but just one earned run. Lifetime against the Phillies, Cueto is 1-2 with an ERA of 5.86.

This season Philadelphia is 71-48 as a favorite and 74-85-3 against the ‘over/under’ line. Cincinnati is 35-43 as an underdog and 76-73-13 against the ‘over/under’ line. Including Friday night’s win, the Phillies have now won their last six straight against the Reds, but all the games were played in Philadelphia. They are 1-2 in the last three games in Cincinnati, so the Reds are counting on a change of venue to provide a change of fortunes in this series.

Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the Phillies have a knack for finding ways to win, even when things are not going their way. They have basically been unstoppable since the beginning of September and will not let an opportunity to end this series in three games slip away.
