The Philadelphia Phillies host the Toronto Blue Jays today in what will be a HOME game for Toronto in Philadelphia with the DH. This is a three game weekend series against the Blue Jays starting tonight at 7:05 P.M.

After a going through a rough patch in late May and early June, Philadelphia is finally starting to turn things around. They have won six of their last eight and after a three game sweep of Cleveland this week they are 38-32 overall, 2 ½ games behind Atlanta in the NL East. The Phillies are 18-17 SU on the road and 26-23 ATS as a favorite. Against the over/under line they are 30-38-1 and in 11 of their last 16 games on the road the total as stayed under.

The Phillies will send their ace Roy Halladay to the mound to face his old team in tonight’s game. In 15 previous starts this season Halladay is 8-6 with a 2.43 ERA. In his last outing he went eight innings giving up 11 hits and three earned runs in a loss to Minnesota. He spent 12 seasons in Toronto and this will be his first start against his old team.

Philadelphia is currently ranked 10th in the NL with a team batting average of .259. They are ranked ninth in the league in runs scored with 329, and average of 4.7 per game but have averaged 6.2 per game over their last 10. Ryan Howard is still their biggest bat as he leads the team with 82 hits, 53 RBI’s, and 14 HR’s.

Toronto is 5-5 in their last 10 games and with an overall record of 39-34 find themselves 6 ½ games behind New York in an extremely competitive AL East. The Blue Jays are 20-17 SU at home and 21-23 ATS as an underdog. They are 35-33-4 against the over/under line. Four out of their last six games at home against the Phillies have stayed under the total.

Right hander Jesse Litsch will get the start for the Blue Jays tonight. After spending the entire 2009 season recovering from elbow surgery, Litsch will be making just his third start of the year. Last time out he looked sharp giving up just three hits, pitching seven scoreless innings against San Francisco. He is currently 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.

The Blue Jays have not hit the ball well this season as they are ranked last in the AL with a team batting average of just .239. They have done a much better job at getting guys across the plate as they are ranked sixth in the league in runs scored with 341, and average of 4.67 per game. Jose Bautista has been a stud knocking in 49 runs on just 57 hits with 20 of them being a home run.

With the Philadelphia bats finally providing some run support, Halladay should have a big night against his old team. Stick with the Phillies and the under in this one.
