Philadelphia has suffered from many injury issues, and the Phillies have plenty of time turn things around.

The Phillies rank fifth in the majors in batting average, but they are 18th in the majors in runs scored per game. Philadelphia has struggled all year to come up with clutch hits to knock in runs. Placido Polanco joined Ryan Howard and Chase Utley as Phillies hitters who are out with an injury earlier this week.

Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino have both had subpar seasons thus far. Carlos Ruiz has been carrying the offense with a career year. Ruiz is hitting .358 with 8 homers and 32 RBI’s.

Joe Blanton started the year well, but he has been terrible of late. Blanton has allowed at least 5 runs in all of his last four starts.

Baltimore had a great series at Boston heading into this Interleague series.

The Orioles pitching staff was expected to be one of the worst in the majors, but they rank ninth in team ERA at an impressive 3.69. Jake Arrieta is one of the young pitchers that the Orioles are high on, but he has struggled this season. Arrieta has just one quality start in his last six outings.

The Orioles offense averages 4.39 runs per game. Adam Jones is having a breakout season for Baltimore in 2012.

Jones is hitting .307 with 16 home runs and 35 RBI’s. He is quickly becoming one of the best outfielders in baseball. Matt Wieters has had a very disappointing season, but he has shown signs of life in the past few games.

Both pitchers have been struggling of late. Look for plenty of runs to be scores in this Interleague matchup.
