Chicago White Sox (10-14 through April 26)
Edwin Jackson (2-2, 4.88)

After struggling to an 8-14 start, the Chicago White Sox finally showed some signs of life by winning the first two games of their four-game set with the New York Yankees. The key to their success: Sergio Santos came in and saved both wins. The White Sox’s bullpen had been atrocious up to that point. Maybe they finally have their man in Santos, who has tossed 11.2 scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts this season.

They’ll send one of the majors’ most maddening starters to the hill Thursday in Edwin Jackson. The former top prospect has 30 strikeouts in 31 innings, including a 13-K effort, but he’s also walked four batters in three of his five starts and opponents are hitting .305 off him. Jackson is 2-5 with a 4.83 over 11 career starts against the New York Yankees. He’s probably seeing Alex Rodriguez in his sleep. A-Rod, off to a fantastic start this season (.321, 5 HR, 17 RBI), has lit Jackson up for a .409 average with three homers and nine RBI in 22 career at-bats.

New York Yankees (12-8 through April 26)
C.C. Sabathia (1-1, 2.73)

The Yankees are the majors’ highest scoring team at 5.55 runs per game and also lead the bigs in homers – but you’d never know it based on what the White Sox have done to them early this week. Phil Humber and Gavin Floyd mowed the Bronx Bombers down on consecutive nights.

C.C. Sabathia gets the ball Thursday night. While his 2.73 ERA is far better than his usual April result, C.C.’s ERA has almost doubled over his last two outings. He’s a bona fide White Sox beater, going 16-4 with 186 strikeouts in 186 innings over 29 career starts against them.

MLB Trends:

CHW are 13-3 in their last 16 Thu. games.
CHW are 2-8 in their last 10 games on grass.
CHW are 3-11 in their last 14 overall.
NYY are 11-1 in their last 12 Thu. games.
NYY are 104-46 in their last 150 home games.
Over is 9-4 in NYY last 13 games following a win.
CHW are 5-14 in the last 19 meetings in New York.
CHW are 4-9 in the last 13 meetings.

The pick:

The Yankee pitchers have hardly been bad in this series, allowing five total runs over the first two games. It’s not like the White Sox offense is sizzling. I think C.C. can lock it down and A-Rod can lead the Yankees over the shaky Jackson.

White Sox vs Yankees prediction: Yankees 6, White Sox 2
