Mariano Rivera tore an ACL running after a fly ball in batting practice. Rivera will obviously miss a long time, and some even wonder aloud whether he will play again. Whether you are a Yankees fan or not, it is a shame to see such a classy player go down in such a freak accident.

Kansas City went on to win their first home game of the season behind an impressive pitching performance from Danny Duffy.

The Yankees team has to be in a bit of shock due to Rivera’s injury. Rivera is a team leader and it is definitely deflating for the team to see him out for an extended period of time. The offense really needs to get going again. This offense leads the majors in home runs with 38, but they have struggled over the past four games.

Nick Swisher had been red hot, but he is out with a hamstring injury right now. Derek Jeter picked up four hits last night and is now hitting a blistering .404 on the season. C.C. Sabathia hasn’t been dominating this year, but his last outing was his best of the year. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Kansas City’s starting pitching has been horrific so far this year. The starters have combined for a measly total of seven quality starts all season.

Bruce Chen has been the best of the bunch, but his ERA is 4.23 after a poor start in his last outing. Fortunately for the Royals, the offense has really come on of late. Mike Moustakas has caught fire over the last week or so. Moustakas hit a three-run homer that won the game for Kansas City last night. He leads the team with a .313 average.

Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer have both struggled so far in 2012. This Royals offense could be very dangerous if guys like Gordon and Hosmer heat up and Moustakas keeps hitting.

The under is 5-0 in the Yankees last 5. The under is 6-1-1 in the last 8 home games for Kansas City. The under is also 14-5 in the last 19 meetings between these two teams.
