The White Sox turn to Hector Noesi in this one as they look to take a 2-0 series lead. He’s been an absolute train wreck this season, and frankly, in his entire career as a starter. His ERA is north of seven on the season, and he’s 0-3 through four starts.

Noesi’s last start came in Houston against a light-hitting Astros squad, yet he still gave up six runs in six innings of work, allowing the Astros to knock out six hits and two home runs. The Astros didn’t manage another run after he left in a 6-5 White Sox loss.

Noesi’s time in the major leagues extends back to New York when he was a prospect with the Yankees before he was shipped over to the Seattle Mariners. Now, he’s having time keeping a major league job having already been released by both the Mariners and the Texas Rangers this season. His ERA on the season was at 14.21 when the White Sox brought him in.

The Yankees counter with Hiroki Kuroda. He hasn’t looked like his usual self this season, though some of that can be attributed to bad luck. His WHIP on the season is at 1.23, and he’s only walked nine batters in nine starts.

He picked up the win in his last start, a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, though he did allow the Pirates to go deep twice, coming away from that one allowing three earned runs in six innings, striking out seven and allowing five hits and two walks. That was his third quality start in his last four as he looks to get his base numbers closer to what we have come to expect from him.

While Kuroda hasn’t looked like himself of late, expect the Yankees to bounce back and even the series in this one. Noesi has been a gas can, and the Yankees have the ability to knock the ball out of the park.

Additionally, with neither pitcher instilling much confidence, and the game taking place in a hitter-friendly venue, runs likely won’t come at a premium in this one. Expect to see both sides rake, particularly the left-handed hitters.

The Yankees are 4-1 in Kuroda’s last five starts versus American League Central opponents.

The over is 9-0 in the White Sox last nine games played on a Friday, and 4-0 in the Yankees’ last four games played on a Friday.

The play: New York -132, Over 9
