Yankees vs Red Sox MLB Betting + Handicapping Picks

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Preview

The Red Sox are out of the playoff picture 15.5 games back of the Yankees and Orioles and can just play spoiler the rest of the way. MLB lines have the visiting Yankees as the away favorite in this game.

In yesterday’s match up between these 2 rivals the Red So beat the Yankees 4-3.

This season the Yankees have an O/U record of 61-77 with a run-line W/l record of 70-71 and the Red Sox have an O/U record of 70-66 with a run-line W/L record of 62-80.

Even though they lost last night the Yankees have won 6 of their last 8 games against the Red Sox in Boston.

David Phelps (3-4, 3.55 ERA) goes for the Yankees tonight and in his last outing he gave up 5 earned runs in 4 innings, but the offense bailed him out in a no decision facing the Orioles. Aaron Cook (3-9, 5.17 ERA) gets the nod for the Red Sox and in his last start he gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings in a loss to the Mariners.

In an interesting stat the Red Sox are the Reds Sox are 4-2 against the Yankees since July 28th and 11-25 against every other team.  [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Phelps has been struggling as of late going less than 5 innings in his last 2 starts, and is winless in his last 4 starts.

In his 2 career starts again the Yankees Cook has been shelled losing both with an ERA of 10.24.

The Red Sox are only 2-8 in their last 10 games and the Yankees are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

In some betting trends for this AL East match up the Yankees are 9-4 in their last 13 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, 2-5 in Phelps’ last 7 starts as a favorite, and they have an Over record of 5-1 in their last 6 road games.

The Red Sox are 4-9 in their last 13 home games, 0-5 in Cook’s last 5 starts, and they have an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 games a home underdog.

Jason’s Pick: Both hurlers have not been pitching well, but even though they are in Boston and the Red Sox have fared well against he Yankees in the last several games I have to go with New York.
