The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox is second to none in Major League Baseball. The two teams flat out just don’t like each other and it often shows. The other factor that has made this rivalry so amazing in the last few years is that both teams are very good. The Yankees won the World Series last year and are looking to make it two in a row this year.

The Red Sox started very slowly, but they are getting it going in a big way over the last week or so. Both teams head into this three game weekend series in Boston by winning their last four games. Expect a great show in this series and in this Saturday afternoon match up on Fox.

The Yankees teed off on Josh Beckett in Game One, so now it is Boston’s turn to try to rough up the Yankees ace.

The New York Yankees sit at 20-8 and have really gotten on a roll in the last couple of weeks.

The Yankees power packed lineup is scoring runs in bunches (5.6 per game thus far) and their pitching staff is surprising everyone with a 3.45 ERA on the season. Some injury concerns have come up in recent days as Granderson, Posada, Pettite, and Rivera have all had some issues. The biggest reason the Yankees have been able to do well even without Mark Teixeira contributing this year is Robinson Cano’s amazing start.

Cano is hitting .359 and has 9 home runs and 21 runs batted in. The middle of this Yankees lineup is as good as you’ll see anywhere in baseball.

The Boston Red Sox started the season very slowly, but after a four game sweep of the Angels in Fenway, they are back on the right path. The Red Sox scored 36 runs in the four game series sweep and held the Angels to just 16. The Red Sox rank sixth in all of baseball with a .275 batting average.

The pitching staff has let them down so far this year, as there ERA of 4.68 has proved to be a real problem. The Red Sox need guys like Beckett, Dice-K, and Tim Wakefield to get back into form if they are going to make a deep run this season.

Both of the pitcher’s in this Saturday afternoon match up have pitched brilliantly for their team this season. Clay Bucholz has been the best pitcher so far this season for the Red Sox.

Bucholz has a 2.97 ERA and has not given up more than four runs in any of his starts this year. On the other side, CC Sabathia is off to a great start this season as well. Sabathia is 4-1 and has an ERA of just 2.74.

He has not given up more than three earned runs in any of his six starts this year.

The home plate umpire in this one will be Adrian Johnson. Based on historical data, Johnson tends to lean toward the over because of a smaller than average strike zone.

Yankees vs. Red Sox Free MLB Pick

Both pitchers are pitching well this year, but this series has been filled with high scoring games in recent years. Sabathia didn’t fare well in the opening game of this season at Fenway, but I would expect him to do much better in this start.

The Yankees have a stronger lineup than do the Red Sox, and at this point I believe they are just the better team. I like the Yankees moneyline here. Yankees ML -135
