ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

New York (28-32) saw its winning streak come to an end after being swept in a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets struggled against the Cubs during the series, stranding 31 runners and were outscored 14-9.

The lone bright spot was outfielder Curtis Granderson, who has reached base in 18 straight games, the second-longest active streak in the majors.

On the flip side, third basmean David Wright was 0-for-10 versus the Cubs, but will look to turn things around against Giants starter Matt Cain, who he is 11-for-25 with six doubles against.
[dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Cain is set to take the mound in game one after returning form from the disabled list for the second time this season.

The right-hander missed four starts during his time off and will hope his return can produce his fourth win of the season, against a Mets team that he has performed poorly agsainst, Cain is winless in three outings against New York since 2011, and holds a 3.57 ERA in 12 career starts.

However, the three-time All-Star is 52-47 with a 3.16 ERA in 140 career starts at home, where the Giants (39-21) own the best home record in the league at 19-9.

The Mets will try and spoil that by sending Jon Niese to the hill on Friday. Niese has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his 11 starts and he has eight quality starts among them.

The southpaw performed well in his last outing against the Phillies, holding Philadelphia to just a pair of runs over eight innings of work, but registered a ND in a 4-3 victory.

Niese is 1-2 with a 2.96 ERA in four starts against the Giants, losing in his only meeting last season.

Notes:

2. Giants RF Hunter Pence is riding a six-game hitting streak but is 3-for-26 with seven strikeouts versus Niese.
3. Mets OF Curtis Granderson has reached base in 18 straight games, the second-longest active streak in the majors.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Giants –

Despite the fact that the New York has won five in a row in San Francisco, the Giants are 6-1 in their last seven games and are playing light out.

If they can get a least six decent inning from Cain, I look for them to win this one.
