MLB Betting – New York Mets @ Florida Marlins

John Maine (1-2) vs. Nate Robertson (3-3)

Robertson vs. Mets Hitting

Nate Robertson’s first season with the Marlins is going much better than his last couple of years with Detroit. His numbers aren’t amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that they’re better than previous years is a good sign. Robertson has experienced a rough stretch this season, losing three straight decisions without being able to pitch past the sixth inning. However, he bounced back in his last start, going six strong, allowing two runs and striking out five. Not great, but not horrible either.

Robertson doesn’t have extensive knowledge of any of the Mets current players, although there is an intriguing matchup to watch. Rod Barajas, who is swinging a hot bat as of late, is a career .313 hitter versus Robertson. Barajas already has nine home runs this year; Mets catchers as a whole only hit 12 all of last season.

Against pitchers that aren’t named Robertson, nobody on New York is really standing out. David Wright has been the most consistent hitter, leading the team in batting average (.288) and RBI’s (22).

Maine vs. Marlins Hitting

John Maine hasn’t been horrible this year, and his poor record is more of an indication to his slow start to the season as opposed to his strong play recently. In his first three games, Maine allowed 15 runs in 13 innings. Since then, the right hander has been much better, allowing just six runs in 18 1/3 innings, including three straight quality starts. His 1-2 record coupled with an ERA over 5 might not look too good on the score-sheet, but it’s hardly a fair way to evaluate his play as of late.

Maine is no stranger to the Marlins, and some of Florida’s biggest hitters are happy he’s pitching on Saturday; you might want to check out a sports betting website for these guys. Jorge Cantu is hitting .389 life-time against the righty, with one home run and four RBI’s. Hanley Ramirez is hitting a solid .308, and has three career homers against Maine. Dan Uggla may be the big slugger with the most problems against Maine. Although the second baseman is hitting .296 against the right hander, he also has 10 strikeouts in 27 at-bats.

Bullpen Comparison

Francisco Rodriguez is having a very good season start as the Mets closer. Although his saves number may be a bit low (5), he does sport a 2.04 ERA and have 20 K’s in 17 2/3 innings pitched; nothing to shake a stick at. The rest of the bullpen is having good years as well. Of all Mets reliever’s who have pitched over 15 innings, only one has an ERA over 3.00.

Fantasy owners and those who bet on MLB have many reasons to enjoy the season Marlins closer Leo Nunez is having. In 15 1/3 innings, Nunez has allowed only a single run; that’s good for a miniscule 0.59 ERA. In the last week alone, Nunez is 1-0 with three saves. The rest of the ‘pen is not as consistent. Despite having a Clay Henlsey on the team (1.96 ERA), the Marlins also employ Burke Badenhop (5.60 ERA).

Outlook

The Marlins current hot streak, coupled with the Mets poor record away from home (4-10), make this one an easy game for betting. No pitcher is dominant enough to steal a game, and neither offense has been lighting it up as of late, either. When in doubt, pick the home team.
