Odds to Win MLB’s National League East
The NL East has basically been a two team battle the last few seasons with the Mets and the Phillies going down to the wire. The question this year is can anyone else in the division stay in the race long enough to challenge for the top spot.
Here is a look at the current odds to win the NL East.
NL East Baseball Betting Lines
Atlanta Braves +325: Not too long ago this team consistently dominated this division, have recently fallen on hard times. Given some improvement to their starting roster they will do better than last season’s 72-90 record, but not enough to challenge for the division
Florida Marlins +1000: Much will depend on how their starting rotation holds up as they faded down the stretch last season. This team has enough talent to compete for the division and should be able to hang around the top deep into summer.
New York Mets +130: Is the third time a charm? After two seasons of falling apart in late summer, is 2009 the season keep things together and win it all. The answer to this question hinges mainly on how their bullpen performs late in the season. If they can pull out the crucial wins and saves in August and September they should end up on top.
Philadelphia Phillies +150: Can this team reproduce the intensity it showed last year that carried them to their first World Series title in close to 30 years? The talent is still there as other than losing Pat Burrell, they basically have the same line up as last season. They will battle the Mets down to the wire, but will need lightning to strike twice to win the NL East.
Washington Nationals +2500: There are just too many holes on this team to compete in this division. After losing over 100 games last season, they will look to some of their younger talent to start building for a better future, which may still be a couple of years away.
NL East Predictions
Most likely this will be a two team race between the Mets and the Phillies with New York ending up on top.
Keep your eye on the Marlins as they seemed poised to make a run at the title and spoil the Mets post season plans for the third straight year.
