The Marlins now sit second in the NL East. Philadelphia was the heavy favorite in the division, but they are currently in the cellar of the division.
The Phillies are 27-25, but that isn’t good enough in one of the best divisions in baseball.
Giancarlo Stanton was the primary reason the Marlins had a record-setting month of May. Stanton smashed 12 home runs in the month of May alone. He knocked in 30 runs in the month. Stanton is just 22 years old, and the sky appears to be the limit for him.
Jose Reyes hasn’t had the season most expected, but the team is still right there in contention. Hanley Ramirez has 8 hits in his last 10 at-bats, and he seems to be hitting stride. Mark Beuhrle will be on the mound for the Marlins in this one. Buehrle is 5-4 with a 3.26 ERA so far in 2012. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Kyle Kendrick was thought of as a long relief pitcher before the season, but he has moved into the rotation as the season has moved along. Kendrick is an inconsistent pitcher, but he has been brilliant over his last three starts. Kendrick pitched a complete game shutout against the Cardinals in St. Louis last time out.
The Phillies offense really misses Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. Carlos Ruiz is having a career season to help the offense afloat. Ruiz is a bit dinged up right now, but he expects to be ready to play in this one after the team’s off day on Thursday.
The Marlins are hotter than anyone in baseball right now, and Kendrick has been very inconsistent over his career.
Miami has the better offense and the more consistent pitcher.
