Miami vs NY MLB Betting Preview

The Mets started the season red hot, but after being swept in yesterday’s double-header against the Giants they are just 8-8 on the season. Miami is 7-8 on the year, but they are only 2-6 away from home.

Matchup | Preview

Both teams will bring their Ace to the mound in this one. Let’s take a look at the matchups.

Josh Johnson has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the National League the last few years. Unfortunately, he has been unable to stay healthy. Johnson has been shaky so far this year. He did put together a quality start in his last outing, and the team is hoping he build off that effort. The Marlins are ninth in the majors with a 3.27 team ERA.

Miami is a team built around speed. Ozzie Guillen has given guys like Jose Reyes and Emilio Bonifacio the green light this season. The Marlins lead the majors with 27 stolen bases so far in 2012. Bonifacio leads the team with an on-base percentage of .403, and he has 9 stolen bases in 9 attempts. Giancarlo Stanton has yet to hit a home run this year in 51 at-bats. Jose Reyes is hitting just .220, but you can’t expect that to last for too long. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Johan Santana was brilliant in his first two starts this year, but he was roughed up by the Braves in his last outing. Santana couldn’t get through the second inning in that game. He has been allowing too many base runners this year, and he needs to start getting ahead in the count more often. The Mets bullpen isn’t very good, so the team really needs a strong start out of Santana.

The Marlins are first in the majors in stolen bases and the Mets are last with just four all season. David Wright is swinging a red hot bat so far this year. Wright is hitting .375, and he is getting on base in nearly half his plate appearances. Jason Bay left Monday night’s game with bruised ribs and he is questionable for this game. David Murphy has been hitting the ball exceptionally well of late.

Miami has a better lineup than the Mets at this point. Johnson looked like he was rounding into form in his last outing. I like the Marlins to take this game.
