The Marlins and the Phillies play the first of a three game series tonight at Citizens Bank Park with the first pitch slated for 7:05 P.M.

After taking two out of three from Milwaukee last week, Florida comes into this game having been swept three straight by the Mets over the weekend. They are currently 28-30 and five games back in the NL East. They are 4-6 SU in their last 10 and have struggled on the road this season, going 11-15.

ATS as an underdog the Marlins are 9-17 but they have won 10 out of their last 15 games SU against the Phillies.

Right hander Chris Volstad will get the start tonight for Florida. In 11 starts this season he has gone 3-6 with a 4.08 ERA. In his last outing he lasted 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. He is 2-3 with an ERA of 3.38 lifetime against Philadelphia.

The big anticipation for this game is the debut of Marlin’s outfielder Mike Stanton, who is expected to make his Major League debut tonight after an outstanding performance in the minors.

He will join a lineup that currently has a .259 batting average and has scored 261 runs, both ranked eighth in the NL.

Philadelphia is coming off a four game series split with San Diego but lost the last two games. Their overall record is now 30-26, two games in back of Atlanta in the NL East.

They are 4-6 SU in their last 10 games and 2-6 in their last eight. As a favorite they have gone 21-20 ATS and are 23-32-1 against the over/under line.

The total has gone under in 13 of Philadelphia’s last 18 home games.

Kyle Kendrick will be on the mound tonight for the Phillies. The big right hander is currently 3-2 on the year with an ERA of 4.62 in 11 starts. Last time out he pitched seven strong innings against the Braves, giving up five hits and only one earned run.

Lifetime against the Marlins he is 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

The Phillies’ bats continue to struggle as they just cannot seem to break out of a scoring slump that dates all the way back to mid May. Their team batting average is down to .259 ranking them sixth in the NL but their major problem has been scoring runs.

They are currently ranked 10th in the league with 253.

Both starting pitchers are coming off a couple of solid outings and should be able to continue their success against two lineups that have lacked any punch lately.
