Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Preview

1. The Nationals have lost 5 straight games.
2. The Braves have lost 4 of their last 5 games.
3. The Braves offense has not scored more than 4 runs in 6 of their last 7 games.

This season the Braves are 3-3 at home and the Nationals are 2-7 on the road.

In their last games the Braves lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 and the Nationals lost to the Miami Marlins 6-2.

Both of these teams are struggling and the Nationals are really in a slide losing 5 in a row. They are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies in the basement of the NL East, but are still the betting favorite with Doug Fister getting the starting nod.

The Braves got off to a great start to the season, but have fallen on hard times as of late losing 4 of their last 5 games.

Fister was solid in his first 2 starts of the season, but struggled in his last one when he gave up 5 earned runs in 6 innings in taking a loss. However, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 1.23 in his 3 starts facing the Braves.

The National’s are 20-8 in Fister’s last 28 starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts on the road.

Fister is a sinkerball and low ball pitcher that gets many ground balls, which is not good for the Washington defense that has really struggled all season.

Eric Stults goes for the Braves tonight and he had a solid last outing only giving up 1 earned run in 6 innings. He was rocked in his last outing against the Nationals, which was last season when he was with the Padres. In that start he only went 2 innings and gave up 6 runs.

The Braves are 10-4 in their last 14 home games facing the Nationals.

The Nationals have a great pitching staff that ranks a legit 6th in the Majors in team ERA, but their offense only ranks 23rd in runs scored.

The Braves rank 18th in the Majors in runs scored and 13th in team ERA.

I hate to go against my Braves, but I think Fister will get over his last poor outing and have a good start tonight and the Nationals will take Game 1 of this series.
