The once surging Mets have returned to earth over the past few weeks, and they could be kissing their postseason hopes goodbye if they don’t turn things around soon.

Losers of 10 of its last 11 games, New York has struggled to scratch across runs while pitching has fallen well short of the mark.

They will hope that rookie right-hander Matt Harvey can turn that trend around when he makes his Major League debut on Thursday.

The 23-year old was recently called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, where although he has struggled with consistency, he has posted a respectable 7-5 record and 3.68 ERA in 20 starts this season.

Harvey is armed with a strong combination of blistering fastballs and improving breaking pitches that have led to 112 strikeouts in 110 innings this year.He will be challenged by an Arizona lineup that has been pounding the ball during a six-of-eight winning stretch, which has also seen the bullpen hold up their share of the load as well. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Looking to help the D’backs bounce back from a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Colorado on Wednesday, will be red-hot lefty Wade Miley.

The 25-year old will hope to build on a 12-3 victory over Houston his last time out, where he allowed just one run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out nine in seven frames.

The win improved Miley’s overall record to 11-5 in 2012, as he leads the team nearly in every pitching statistic, while also ranking third in wins and seventh in the National League in WHIP (1.09) this season.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Arizona- While we really don’t know what to expect from Harvey, Miley has been on a roll since the break, and he should have little problem with a Mets’ offense that has all but totally dried up over their last four games.
