Last year’s division champs, the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, have fallen 10 1/2 games behind in the National League West standings, but were encouraged after winning two of three against Milwaukee, and lost in Game 1 at San Francisco on Monday after falling behind 4-0 in the first two innings.

In Game 2 on Tuesday, it was the same old story, as they D’backs scored just one run, losing to the Giants for the fourth straight time.

In an effort to try and turn things around, the Arizona will send Ian Kennedy to the mound in Game 3.

The right-hander was on the losing end of his fifth start in a row last Friday, as he pitched poorly and was once against the victim of the Diamondbacks poor run support. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

It’s really a shame that Kennedy has not performed better since his breakout season last year, finishing with an ERA below 3.00 for the first time in his career. Unfortunately, he has not been able to carry that over to this season.

He now faces a Giants offense that is ranked just 10th in the National League, but has picked up as of late thanks largely to the tandem of Gregor Blanco and Melky Cabrera. Cabrera leads the majors with 77 hits. Cabrera has 50 hits in May, good for second-most in a single month in San Francisco-era history, behind only Randy Winn’s 51 hits in September 2005.

The G-men have won 12 of their last 18 games and eight of their last 11 at home, and in order to keep that trend alive, they will place the ball hesitantly in the hand of Tim Lincecum.

The 27-year old righty has been a disappointment thus far, and was hammered for six runs in less than six innings at Miami his last time at out.

Lincecum has now surrendered at least three runs in five straight games, and will now have to deal with an Arizona line up which ripped him for five runs in 5 1/3 innings during his first start this year.

Matt’s Free Prediction: San Francisco- Even thought I am not impressed with Lincecum, I am even less enthusiastic about the Diamondbacks offense.
