Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox Preview

1. The White Sox have lost their last 5 games.
2. After losing 3 of 4 games the Tigers have won 2 in a row.
3. The Tigers are in the lead in the AL Central 7 games up on a White Sox team that is in the basement of the division.

This season the White Sox are 6-3 at home and the Tigers are 9-4 on the road.

In their last games the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 and the White Sox lost to the Minnesota Twins 13-3.

To say the White Sox are struggling would be an understatement, as they have dropped 5 in a row where they have been outscored 39-10. However, they are at home and are a slight betting favorite facing the Tigers, who have won 2 in a row.

These 2 teams met early in the season in Detroit where the Tigers took 2 of 3 games from the White Sox.

Looking at the stats it is no surprise they are in the basement of the AL Central, as they rank 30th in runs scored and 26th in team ERA.

Jeff Samardzija takes the hill for the White Sox to try to end their skid and while he was one of the main acquisitions in the off-season he has given up at least 4 runs in 3 of his 5 starts on the season. In his last outing he gave up 10 hits and 8 runs in 5 innings of work in a 8-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Samardzija faced the Tigers already this season and he had a solid outing only allowing 1 earned run in 8 innings, but go little run support in a 2-1 loss.

The Tigers have won 4 of their last 5 games facing the White Sox.

Greene was off to a great start on the season winning his first 3 starts with an ERA of only 0.39. However, in his last 2 starts he has given up 15 runs in only 8 innings pitched.

One of his stronger starts of the season came in a 9-1 win over the White Sox where he went 7 innings and only gave up 1 earned run.

The Tigers are 4-1 in Greene’s last 5 starts.

4* Cappers MLB Free Pick

I think samardzija will have a good start at home tonight and Greene will struggle again, which is why I am picking the White Sox to win and end their 5-game skid.
