PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Hiroki Kuroda (3-4, 3.56 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Kyle Drabek (2-4, 3.66 ERA)

New York

The Blue Jays and Yankees keep trading places in the American League East and this is a good opportunity for both clubs to try and get closer to the Orioles and Rays at the top.  These teams have yet to meet this season but will play each other frequently over the remainder of the season.

Life in New York seems to agree with Hiroki Kuroda.  He is 3-1 in starts at home but has yet to win a start on the road in the vaunted pinstripes.

The primary thing seems to be a lack of control.  Kuroda is on pace to give up more free passes than he has ever before which when combined with a higher than normal BAA is getting him into trouble.

As he is new to the league there could be a lot of factors in play for this one.

Toronto seems to always struggle against Tampa so they will be happy to have the Rays replaced with the Yankees as visitors – even if it just a tune up for that other New York team, the Mets.  The Blue Jays are scuffling right now, missing a golden opportunity to take advantage of their schedule(4 gamer with the Twins last week).

The key for the Jays is that they are still above .500.  As long as they maintain that they can keep the scrutiny from getting too much for this young team.

Starter Kyle Drabek was the Jays best starter in April but come May he has struggled, especially with his control.  Like Kuroda he needs to cut down on the free passes.  He has great stuff he just needs to trust it more.

The Jays also need to start getting production out of season opening 3 and 4 hitters Jose Bautista and Adam Lind.

Bautista has one hit against Kuroda in his career – a homer.

O/U Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Toronto 7 – New York 5
