Los Angeles

L.A. outslugged the Rockies yesterday bombing 4 homers at Coors.

With OF Matt Kemp back in the lineup the Dodgers have become much more fearsome, especially 1B Adrian Gonzalez who has been raking of late. Throw in rookie OF Yasiel Puig and now healthy IF Hanley Ramirez and their offense can be among the best in the league.

After two straight shutout appearances Chris Capuano got bombed the last time out against Philadelphia – unfortunately the shutout outings were the surprise and not the other way around. Capuano may be entering the “crafty lefty” stage of his career but he is difficult to rely upon as the Dodgers are finding out.

Thus far this season his starts seem to have little middle ground too, he either get shelled or is very impressive, with no rhyme or reason as to what to expect from start to start. Bettors beware.

Colorado

Colorado needs to snap out of their funk if they want to take the NL West – which is really there for the taking. Despite their losing record they are the only team in the division to be positive in net runs at +16. The lineup is missing a couple of very key bats right now in SS Troy Tulowitzki and OF Dexter Fowler. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

It is a real shame for Fowler especially because he was putting together his best season yet, finally delivering on his promise. OF Carlos Gonzalez is raking again though and he launched his team leading 23rd homer last night.

Though the Rockies have been fading you can’t throw any of the blame at starter Jhoulys Chacin. Colorado has won his last 4 starts with the righty getting the decision in each. He has not given up a run in his last two starts spanning 15 innings and he has been pitching much deeper into ball games lately compared to earlier in the season.

I am not sure anyone can master the Humidor that is Coors Field but Chacin has given up just one homer in 65 innings there this season. That has been the biggest improvement to his game. Its amazing how keeping the ball in the ballpark helps your team win.

In the wacky NL West you can never be too sure especially when it comes to games at Coors. Still I think the home team is the smart money play on Independence Day as Chacin has been very strong all season long at home.

The Rockies may be lacking a couple of key bats from their lineup but the edge on the mound should be enough.

O/U Pick: Push
Score Prediction: Colorado 7 – Los Angeles 3
