Ben Zobrist and the Royals roll into the sunshine state on Friday night to start a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays who were swept by KC in their last meeting.

Zorbist will face his former team for the first time since he was traded to Kansas City on July 28. Injured earlier in the season, the two the two-time All Star is batting .337 in 26 games with the Royals, and has recorded six hits in 14 at-bats over his last four games.

Meanwhile, KC third baseman Mike Moustakas is 14-for-31 with four homers and 12 RBIs, while right fielder Alex Rios is 14-for-29 during their eight-game hitting streaks.

The Royals will look to extend their 13- game lead atop the AL Central by sending Edinson Volquez (11-7, 3.40 ERA) to the mound in Game 1.

The right-hander is 2-0 lifetime versus the Rays.

He has struggled though in two of his last three outings, including giving up six runs and nine hits over 6 2/3 innings at Boston on Sunday. Volquez did not get a decision despite allowing just one run in five frames versus Tampa Bay on July 7.

The Rays have won five of their last six, but gave up a whopping 33 runs while dropping all four games against the Royals in early July.

Tampa needs all the wins it can get, as it still trails Texas by 2 ½ games for the second AL wild card.

The offense has been fueled of late by Kevin Kiermaier, who is 8-for-12 during a four-game hitting streak for the Rays.

Pitching will be key in this matchup however, as the Rays hand the ball to Erasmo Ramirez (10-4, 3.66 ERA), who is 2-0 in his last five overall starts. The right-hander is pitching well at home where he is 5-3 with a 2.55 ERA.

Zobrist is 4-for-9 with a pair of homers against Ramirez, who permitted three runs and seven hits over 6 1/3 frames in his only career start versus the Royals.
