The Yankees will try and win their fifth straight when they wrap-up their series with Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon. They are currently an AL-best 47-31 and have a 2.5 game lead over Boston in the AL East. New York is 27-18 at home and 20-13 on the road.

This lineup has found its groove as of late with 27 runs in its last four games. The Yankees are tied for fifth in the AL in hitting with a .259 team batting average, but they remain first in the league in scoring with 416 runs.

Ivan Nova is expected to get the start for the visiting New York team in this one. He is 7-4 this year with a 4.26 ERA in 15 starts. After turning in his best outing of the year against Cincinnati on June 20, he was very average his last time out; giving up four earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.

The Mets continue to hang tough in the NL East with a four-game winning streak of their own heading into Thursday’s game with Detroit. They are 41-39 overall after winning seven of their last 10 and 9.5 games behind Philadelphia in the NL East. The Mets are 23-19 on the road, but just 18-20 at Citi Field. New York’s bats have exploded over the past four games with an amazing 52 runs including 30 in the last two games against the Tigers. The Mets are now ranked fourth in the NL in scoring with 367 runs and second in hitting with a .264 team batting average.

Jon Niese is scheduled to be on the mound for the Mets. The left hander is 7-6 this season with a 3.67 ERA in 16 previous starts. His last time out he gave up two earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of work to get the win over Texas.

Head-to-head, the Yankees won two of three earlier this season in the Bronx with the total going ‘over’ in two of the games. Last season the series was tied 3-3, but the Mets went 2-1 at home. The total stayed ‘under’ in four of the six games.

For the opener in this series, stick with the Mets to outslug the Yankees to grab the early edge.
